Drugs recovered after speeding motorbike pursued

Police have recovered drugs believed to be methamphetamine after a motorcyclist sped past a Police Highway Patrol car.

The incident occurred around midday yesterday (Wednesday, 3 February) in Feilding as officers were scouting the area for a car that had failed to stop for Police a short time earlier.

As a patrol car drove along Lethbridge Road a motorbike passed in the opposite direction in excess of 120kph (the road has a 100kph limit). The patrol car turned round and pursued the bike for around 1500 metres along Lethbridge Road into Maewa Road (also known as Mill Road) before the rider abandoned the bike.

A 41-year-old Feilding man was arrested close to where the bike was abandoned. A considerable amount of drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, along with other drug-related items were recovered,

The man will appear at Palmerston North District Court today charged with possession for supply of Class A drug, possession of a Class B drug, possession of a Class C drug, possession of utensils, driving whilst suspended and fail to stop.
