Wellington Westpac Rescue Helicopter has a busy Afternoon

The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to Waitaria Bay in the Kenepuru Sound at approx 4:00pm today 7 Jan 09 to a 61yr old female from Havelock.

The Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Helicopter Paramedic on board, responded to Waitaria Bay.
The 61yr old female had been cutting wood on a farm using a log splitter when her hand got caught in the cutter. She lacerated the middle and ring fingers on her left hand.

On arrival the family at the farm had treated her injuries by bandaging the fingers and the patient was able to walk to the helicopter which had landed in the paddock next to the house


The lady was transported to Wairau Hospital Emergency Department where she is being treated and assessed.

On arrival back on base the the Helicopter was then called to a Motor Vehicle Accident in the Wairarapa near Carterton.

A 50yr old male from Carterton had been driving to home when he lost control of his car and rolled. The man was trapped and pinned in the vehicle upside down for 30 minutes before the Fire service where able to cut him out of the vehicle.

The patient was treated at the scene by the local Ambulance Service.

On arrival of the Helicopter the Wellington Free Paramedic assessed the patient before being transferred to the Helicopter.

The Patient was then transported to Wellington Hospital Emergency department where is he being treated and assed for his injuries
