Double fatality closes SH1 causes massive diversion

WAIOURU

Police are at the scene of a double fatality just south of Waiouru. It appears that only one vehicle was involved.

At this stage one lane is still open but motorists should avoid this area as delays are expected.
A further update will be made when more details are known. 

**Update for fatal accident on SH1, south of Waiouru**
There were two vehicles involved in this accident. both deceased were in the same vehicle which rolled after the collision.

There are 3 other people in this car which have minor injuries. Unsure of injuries in the second car but not serious.

**ROAD CLOSURE**
The road between Taihape and Waiouru is now closed while the accident scene is cleared.

It is anticipated that this will remain closed until midday at the earliest. Traffic travelling south will be diverted at Waiouru to SH49 via Wanganui.

North bound traffic will be diverted at Bulls, to go via Wanganui. 

An update will be provided again when more information is known.

**Update of road closure, SH1 Waiouru**
SH1 will remain closed until 2.00pm while police carry out a scene examination at the fatal accident.

The location is about 14's south of Waiouru.
