Fatal crash on Whangarei side of the Brynderwyns

A serious motor vehicle accident has occurred on State Highway 1 on the Whangärei side of the Brynderwyns [Sunday, 4pm].

Up to 4 vehicles may be involved, and at least one person has died in the crash, with 2 others in a critical condition.

Emergency units are at the scene, and traffic diversions have been put in place.

The diversions northbound are through Kaiwaka on the Mangawhai road, coming out at Waipu on State Highway 1.

Diversions for the southbound traffic are the opposite of above.

Further information will be released later as it comes to hand. There is no indication at this stage how long the road will be closed.
