Police seek witnesses to Whangarei fatal crash

WHANGAREI

Whangärei Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw a dark blue Subaru Legacy station wagon being driven from Warkworth to the Brynderwyn Hills yesterday prior to the vehicle being involved in a fatal crash.

It was one of three vehicles involved in the crash, which occurred about 3.20 pm on State Highway One on the Whangärei side of the Brynderwyn Hills.

Two of the vehicles collided head-on. The 27-year-old driver of one of the vehicles died in the crash and a 29-year-old male front passenger received serious injuries.

The 39-year-old driver of the Subaru Legacy was flown to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition.

The two occupants of the third vehicle were not injured.

Whangärei Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet been spoken to.

They would also like to hear from anyone who saw the Subaru Legacy being driven from Warkworth to the Brynderwyn Hills.
