CHRISTCHURCH

Visitors to the Armageddon Expo on March 27th and 28th will get the feeling they’re not in Christchurch anymore and that their usual civilian dress looks hundreds, if thousands of years out of date! The biggest pulp culture expo in the South Island is back; boasting big international visitors, enough entertainment to impress even the most die-hard fans, plus new competitions, signings, movie screenings and more.

Fans of the hit TV Series Heroes will have the chance to meet ‘Ando Masahashi’ AKA James Kyson Lee in his first visit to New Zealand. And old Dr Who fans will be delighted to meet Paul McGann, as the famous eighth ‘Doctor’ signs autographs.

Trekkies will get the opportunity to meet and greet Dominic Keating and John Billingsley (also on True Blood). And one of the most popular performers of 2009 is back – legendary motormouth Michael Winslow – who’ll be entertaining audiences in a double-act with fellow Police Academy co-star Marion Ramsey.

Comics, sci-fi and card fans can look forward to the Yu-Gi-Oh Tournaments, autograph signings with the self-described ‘teller of tall tales’ Robert Rankin, Madman Comic artist Mike Allred, artist Agnes Garbowski, and for Christchurch visitors only Nicola Scott will be sketching and signing.

Anime & Manga fans can meet voice of Xmen’s ‘Wolverine’ Steve Blum, Dragonball Z’s Christopher Sabat, and Naruto’s Tom Gibis before slipping into a costume, getting into character and competing for the Trans Tasman Cosplay Cup!

Gamers can switch on to the NZGamer are with all the latest Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii games. Or take friends out with a game of Laser tag!

There is a great schedule of movies screenings, live action with IPW Wrestling and chocolate to discover in the Easter Egg Hunt. And if that’s not enough Armageddon visitors can test their stomachs in the eating competitions, enter the Kamehameha contest, Pillow Fight, or fight off brain freeze with the icecream eating competition.

The celebrity dinners are back and these are a great chance to have an intimate conversation with; Robert Rankin, Dominic Keating, John Billingsley and Bonita Friedericy, Paul McGann, or James Kyson Lee. Extremely limited tickets available.

Event organizer Bill Geradts says, “The Christchurch Armageddon Expo is THE biggest fantasy event in the South Island; as well as one of the largest events of its kind in the world. Every year we strive to bring new and exciting features to the format plus great international guests; it seems to get bigger and busier with every show and the 2010 Christchurch Expo is going to be an amazing weekend.”

And with single or two day entry tickets available there’s no way anyone from the present – or future should miss out on any of the action!
