CROMWELL

Police Dive Squad members are at Lake Dunstan assisting in the search for a 70-year-old local man who is missing.

The man was on a single-person rowing skiff, which was found overturned at about 8:30a.m. today.

Boats have been used all day [Saturday] to search the area, and foot-searches of the shoreline have also been conducted. An extensive helicopter search was unsuccessful.

The Police Dive Squad will operate until dusk tonight, with the possibility of resuming the search in the morning.

Lake Dunstan is closed between Dairy Creek and the Clyde Dam until further notice.

The search is in a 'recovery' phase and the missing man's family are being supported at this time.

There is no further information available at present.
