TAUPO

On a rain-affected day at Owen Delany Park in Taupo, all matches in today’s final round of pool play were reduced.

Solid wins for Auckland Grammar and Christchurch Boys High School see the two teams go through pool play unbeaten and face each other in tomorrows final.

The other playoffs will see Hamilton Boys High School and Palmerston Boys High School contest 3rd and 4th places, John McGlashan College and Scots College 4th and 5th places, while Wanganui Collegiate School and St Peters School play off for 6th and 7th.

Pool A:

Palmerston North Boys High School vs Auckland Grammar School

Toss: Palmerston North won the toss and elected to bat

Palmerston North Boys High School 102 (Hall 3-8) lost to Auckland Grammar School 106-3 (James Parslow 26*) by 7 wickets

Palmerston North made a conservative start, reaching just 45 for three from the first 18 overs before rain stopped play. The match was reduced to 30 overs per side and this sparked the Palmerston North batsmen into life with 57 added from the final 12 overs to finish on 102. Auckland Grammar opening bowler Jamie Hall was accurate and economical, finishing with three for eight. The Auckland Grammar were never in trouble with a controlled run chase seeing them knock off the runs with seven wickets in hand and more than two overs to spare.

St Peters School vs John McGlashan College

Toss: St Peters won the toss and elected to bat

St Peters School 107 (Seifert 50; Davis 6-11) lost to John McGlashan College 109-4 (Burrow 35, Rae 25*) by 6 wickets

The match was reduced to a 24 over affair after rain stopped play during the first innings. St Peters captain, Tim Seifert led from the front with a well compiled half century to take his team to a respectable 107. John McGlashan College’s Ed Davis was outstanding with the ball, taking six wickets for only 11 runs. In reply John McGlashan cruised to a six wicket win thanks to a 40 run stand between Michael Rae (25*) and Cameron Burrow 35).

Pool B

Hamilton Boys High School vs Christchurch Boys High School

Toss: Christchurch BHS won the toss and elected to bowl

Hamilton Boys High School 102 (Carstensen 35*, Benton 3-18) lost to Christchurch Boys High School 106-4 (MacKenzie 49; Te Arina Richards-Coxhead 3-28) by 6 wickets

The loss of early wickets didn’t allow Hamilton to build momentum as they slumped to 50 for four when rain stopped play. The match was reduced to 35 overs per side leaving Hamilton with just 11 overs to bat when play resumed. Maison Carstensen accelerated the run rate with an unbeaten 35 and propelled Hamilton through to 102. Jeremy Beaton was the best of the Christchurch attack with three for 18. In reply, Christchurch made easy work of the run chase, reaching the target with just four wickets down and 11 overs to spare. Ruaridh MacKenzie was the hero for Christchurch with a match winning 49 from only 51 deliveries.

Scots College vs Wanganui Collegiate School

Toss: Scots College won the toss and elected to bat

Scots College 109-5 (Bradley 52) beat Wanganui Collegiate School 106 (Patton 4-19) by 3 runs

In a match full of tension, Scots College won the toss and decided to bat. They hit their way to 109 for five in a rained reduced match of 24 overs. Scots opener, Robbie Bradley made the bulk of the runs with a fine 52 off of 60 balls. In reply Wanganui lost wickets regularly but remained in the hunt until the very last over when they were bowled out just three runs short of their target. Scot’s bowler Campbell Patton caused most of the damage with four for 19.
