New Zealand Community Trust Junior Boys’ Cup National Cricket Finals Tournament.

Auckland Grammar are the latest New Zealand Community Trust Junior Boys’ champions after a thrilling one wicket win over Christchurch Boys’ High School in the final at Owen Delany Park in Taupo.

1st vs 2nd : Christchurch Boys’ High School vs Auckland Grammar School

Toss: Auckland Grammar won the toss and elected to bowl

Christchurch Boys High School 136-9 (Taylor 40 no, Black 3-28) lost to Auckland Grammar School 137-9 (Mitch Ross 4-11) by 1 wicket

In a low scoring but tense match Christchurch battled through to 136 for nine, largely thanks to a ninth wicket partnership between Tom Taylor and Matthew Long.

Auckland struggled in reply with tight and accurate bowling by the Christchurch bowlers keeping them to 70 for eight. Two late partnerships between Burkin and Isuru Gamage and then Burkin and Michael Black wrestled the match back in Auckland’s favour to seal a one wicket win with just four balls to spare.

3rd vs 4th : Hamilton Boys High School vs Palmerston North Boys High School

Toss: Palmerston North won the toss and elected to bat

Palmerston North Boys High School 115 (Noema-Barnett 42, Ricahrds-Coxhead 4-15) lost to Hamilton Boys High School 116-2 (Santner 54 no) by 8 wickets

After a positive start, Palmerston lost their way to be all out for 115. Arana Noema-Barnett was the stand out batsman with 42 and Hamilton bowler Te Raina Richards-Coxhead returned tidy figures of four for 15. In reply, Hamilton cruised to an eight wicket win with Elliot Santner guiding his team home with an unbeaten 54.

5th vs 6th : Scots College vs John McGlashan College

Toss: John McGlashan College won the toss and elected to bowl

Scots College 141-7 (Ravi 45) beat John McGlashan College 83 (Dylan Oakes 3-12) by 58 runs

Scott College batsman Ravi led the way with a classy 45 and featured in a 50 run partnership with Kyle Tonks. Their useful total of 141 for seven was never threatened by McGlashan College who struggled to build any meaningful partnership and were eventually bundled out for 83.

7th vs 8th : Wanganui Collegiate School vs St Peters School

Toss: St Peters won the toss and elected to bat

St Peters School 234-2 (Seifert 142 no) beat Wanganui Collegiate School 148 (Seifert 3-23) by 86 runs

St Peters School blasted their way to the highest total of the tournament and only lost two wickets in the process. The bulk off the runs came from Tim Seifert who put on an amazing display of power hitting, lashing his way to an all time tournament record of 142 not out and taking the St Peters total through an impregnable 234 for two. Wanganui never seriously challenged the formidable total and were 148 all out.
