The popular and very effective Drive 2 Survive program will be held at the Oamaru Fire Station on Friday the 30th of April.

As in previous years the course will be jointly coordinated by Waitaki District Council and the Police with support from the Fire Service, St John’s Ambulance Service, Waitaki District Health Services, DARE and other key members of the community.

Drive 2 Survive aims to develop a mature and responsive attitude towards vehicle use through a variety of mediums. It has played a significant role in educating young people in the Waitaki since 2007.

Program coordinator Alison Banks says “The program is a one day course for young people aged between 16 and 25 years of age. Locally we tend to focus on students in years 12 and 13 (6th and 7th form) how ever this program is open to all young people in this age group regardless of weather they are at school or not. We take an in depth look at key factors including, drink driving, thrill seeking, peer pressure and consequences of irresponsible vehicular use. This can be pretty confronting as we have input from people who have experienced the devastating consequences of poor decision making relating to vehicle use.”

Registration forms are available from your school office or Waitaki District Council, Community Safety Office.
