Death of infant

Cromwell and Alexandra Police are dealing with the sudden death of a 2 year old infant.

Emergency Services including the Otago Rescue Helicopter were called to a Cromwell address at approximately 8.10pm on Wednesday the 31st of March 2010. Extensive efforts were made to resuscitate the infant however these were unsuccessful.

The death is believed to be a medical event and is not being treated as suspicious. The matter has been referred to the Coroner.

The family of the incident are being supported by Police staff from Alexandra and Cromwell with the assistance of Victim Support.

No further details are available at this time until next of kin have been notified.
