Repair work on the Tuakau Bridge will commence on 12 April 2010 and is expected to continue until the end of May.

During the early stages of the work, a traffic light controlled single lane will be operating to manage access across the bridge. When work allows, the bridge will be fully open on weekends.

For a period of about 10 days during May, the bridge will be closed between 7pm and 5am to allow for sealing and waterproofing. More information will be given about these closures closer to the time.

Franklin District Council CEO, Sally Davis said “repair work on this bridge is really important, as it is one of only two Waikato River crossings in Franklin. This maintenance is required to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge. We are aware that closing the bridge over night could be an issue, and we will make sure that Emergency Services and concerned residents are well aware of the alternative route via the Mercer Bridge prior to any closure.”
