Funds approved to fix summer storm damage to Peninsula roads

Tararu, Kennedy Bay, Port Charles, Tuateawa and Otamakite roads damaged by summer storms are to receive emergency financing from the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) with approval given last week by Thames-Coromandel District Council (TCDC) to provide unbudgeted funding.

Roads on the eastern seaboard were damaged by high intensity rainfall in December last year, resulting in slips, dropouts and other problems agreed by NZTA as requiring emergency funding.

Council agreed to apply to NZTA for emergency funding and to cover TCDC's share of the repair cost by approving $170,733 from the disaster reserve budget and reallocating the balance of $14,067 from roading operations budgets.

This decision allows the storm damage repairs to be completed in the current financial year.
