Ferry license renewed with reduced winter service.

Tairua and Pauanui will continue to have a ferry service for another six years, but the operator has said the ferry will close during the winter.

Tairua Ferry Services received approval from Thames-Coromandel District Council last week to renew its license for another six years. However, the operators requested a timetable change to reflect low winter patronage.

The Tairua/Pauanui ferry services will continue to operate the same summer hours as usual from 1 December, but from the end of Easter Weekend through to 20 November, services will only run on weekends, long weekends and school holidays.

Council approved the change to the license and agreed to keep the fee at $2,250 with the revenue going toward the Tairua/Pauanui Harbour activity.
