PALMERSTON NORTH

Police investigating a bank robbery in Palmerston North are naming a man they want to question in connection with the incident.

Just before 4pm yesterday (14 April) a man walked into the Kiwi Bank in Terrace End, Palmerston North, presented a firearm, believed to be a handgun, and demanded money. He left after being handed a sum of cash.

About an hour later a car made off from a routine Police stop in Feilding, crashed into a tree and the driver ran off. Searches failed to locate the driver.

Police believe the two incidents are linked and want to speak to 30-year-old Eugene Raki Salmon. Eugene Salmon has an address in Upper Hutt but also has associations in the Feilding area and is known to be quite transient.

He is a Maori, about 1.85 tall with short dark hair.

Anyone who sees Eugene Salmon or has information on where he might be is asked to contact Palmerston North Criminal Investigation Unit on 06 351 3600. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
