Tauranga Police are asking the person who threw a bottle, causing serious injuries to a 65 year old woman in Papamoa on Sunday, to come forward directly to tell their story.

"By now this person is probably aware of the serious damage he or she has caused, and may well be scared of the consequences of coming forward," says the officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner from Tauranga CIB.

"In fact, the consequences of them not coming forward would be far worse.

"There is a strong possibility that this person's intent at the time may well have been as simple as littering. Obviously littering is still not okay, but we really need to talk this person to establish exactly what happened in that car on Sunday morning," says Detective Senior Sergeant Turner.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning <<sub: 11 April>> when the 65 year old woman was hit with a partially-full beer bottle thrown from a passing car. The woman was walking on Domain Road in Papamoa at approximately 8:20am when the incident happened.

The impact of the glass bottle left the woman with significant facial injuries. She remains in Tauranga Hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Turner says the person can contact him directly through the Tauranga Police Station on 07 577 4300, or confidentially through 0800 SPEAK UP.

He says any other members of the public with any information can also contact Police through those numbers.
