To say that New Zealand singer/songwriter Dane Rumble is big right now would be an understatement. Psychedelic posters of the chart topper adorn the walls of most teenagers’ bedrooms in the country, and nearly every 15-year-old is “friends” with him on Facebook. Dane Rumble is huge.

And guess what… The Rumble himself is coming to Napier. On Saturday, 29th May, 2010, he will pack out the Rodney Green Centennial Event Centre (formerly Centennial Hall) at an all ages gig as part of National Youth Week, which runs from May 22 to May 30.

It’s all thanks to the Napier Youth Council, who, after pulling off a successful Goodnight Nurse concert last year, is teaming up with Hastings’ Atomic Events Centre to prove that even provincial towns can get the big name performers.

“There is a real buzz within youth council at the moment,” Napier City Council Youth Coordinator, Rebekah Eastwood, says. “They aimed high and it has paid off. They have done really well with organising the event and have even got The Edge 98.3 and TC Systems onboard as sponsors.”

Dane Rumble shot to fame with popular New Zealand hip hop group, Fast Crew, who, during its decade tenure, opened for the likes of Missy Elliott, the Black Eyed Peas and D12. However, in 2009 the group split amicably and Dane began his individual music journey – with no looking back.

Dane released his first single "Always Be Here" which generated a huge buzz and led to a signing with Warner Music. It stayed in the top 20 for 16 weeks. Dane's follow-up single "Don't Know What To Do", was received well and from there came “Cruel” and more recently “Everything”. They just get better and better.

Dane’s Napier concert, which is smoke, alcohol and drug free starts at 8pm. Tickets are $10 and depending on sales, there will be tickets available at the door on the night for $15. Tickets are available from your school’s Youth Council representative, at Music Machine in Napier or at Atomic Events Centre in Hastings.

Dane will have a signing on the day of his concert (May 29) outside Marbeck’s music store, on the corner of Emerson and Market streets, from 2pm until 3pm. Don’t miss your chance to get your own Dane Rumble autograph!
