New Zealand’s biggest film making event.

The Auckland filmmaking menagerie thedownlowconcepthave proven yet again they’ve got what it takes to woo a crowd and judges with their film “ONLY SON” taking home the title of GRAND NATIONAL CHAMPION at this year’s V48 HOURS FURIOUS FILMMAKING....

In a year full of stiff competition from around 7regions and not three but 4 wildcard entries chosen by Sir Peter Jack-son, the group managed to create a short film that captured the hearts of the judges and V48 HOURS audiences aroundNew Zealand. Over 670 teams entered a short film that needed to be shot and cut within a 48 HOUR deadline.thedownlowconcept have been regular entrants in the 8 year old event and have won the title before back in 2006 withBrown Peril; The Tim Porch Story.

ONLY SON is another great example of their ability to exercise a deadpan sense of humor, show brilliant direction, great actors and create pa-thos where you’re least expecting it.Ant Timpson, V48 HOURS DIRECTOR is thrilled but not surprised they took out this years coveted title.

“ The standard this year was extaordinary but thedownlowconcept man-aged to regain their Grand National Crown by making a sweet and sour delight of a short film.. It woeed the international judges with Oscar nominated scriptwriter Josh Olson say-ing ‘Give These Guys A Feature NOW!”

And how does glory feel the second time? thedownlowconcept spokesman Jarrod Holt sums up for the team; “ Winning the V48 back in 2006 was one of the greatest nights of our lives. And to have that same experience again has been just mindblowing. You’d think we’d handle the accolade with a bit more maturity this time and we did. We got drunk and played wii until 6.00am. That’s real success”.

The V48 HOURS Grand National Champion takes home a fantastic film makers prize package including a year’s supply of V, post production services, recording time, cash andtravel from some of New Zealand’s premiere providers.
