Police investigate break-ins at Mt bike shops

Mount Maunganui Police are currently investigating two significant burglaries which occurred over the weekend.

The burglaries relate to two separate bike retail stores. The first occurred at around 6.30 a.m. on Saturday morning, when offenders broke into the premises of Avanti Plus Cycles situated on Owens Place, Mount Maunganui. The offenders took two Specialized mountain bikes and one Specialized BMX bike from the display stand.

A witness has come forward providing information that a white utility vehicle was seen near the premises at the time of the break in. Police are eager to hear from any witnesses who may have seen this vehicle in the area around the time of the burglary.

At around 3.40 a.m. on Monday morning, Mount Bikes situated in Central Parade, Mount Maunganui was broken into and again expensive mountain bikes were targeted. Four GT mountain bikes and accessories were taken in the burglary.

Police are seeking the assistance from the public who may have been in the area around the time of the breaks, who may be able to provide information which may assist in capturing those responsible.

Police would also like to hear from any persons who have seen any new bikes in suspicious circumstances or have been offered expensive bikes at bargain prices.
