US based Kiwi showjumper Guy Thomas is continuing a golden run after finishing first and second in the $US30,000 grand prix at the Golden State Horse Show in Sacramento today (Sunday NZ time).
The results give the former Olympian a comfortable lead in the triple crown series, which ends next weekend.
But Thomas and his team weren't the only Kiwis starring in the grand prix – seven of the top 10 were New Zealanders.
Peter Breakwell was fourth on Lucas, Duncan McFarlane seventh on Mr Whoopy, Anna Trent eighth on Muskateer, with Thomas rounding out ninth and 10th positions on Vilvadi and Shannondale Truman.
Earlier at the four-day show Thomas filled all the prize slots in a small 1.45m class winning on Carino, second on Vilvaldi, third on Shannondale Truman and fourth on Peterbilt.
He also took out another 1.45m class on Vilvadi with Breakwell on Lucas second, McFarlane on Lariccello fourth and Trent on Muskateer fifth.
Thomas also won the 7-8 year old 1.3m class on Acomulado and was second on La Lair.
Dannevirke farmer Maurice Beatson picked up a clutch of ribbons at the Memorial Day Classic at the Los Angeles Equestrian Centre in Burbank, California, finishing third on Apollo van Evendael in the 1.4m with Zibbibo fourth, third in the 1.35m class and sixth in the 1.45m welcome stakes on Jedi Warrior, and fourth on Once a Warrior in another 1.35m class.
Sally Clark and Omicron were third in the 1.25m class.
Many riders are chasing berths in the New Zealand team to compete at the World Equestrian Championships at Kentucky later this year, so are looking to do well in bigger classes at top international shows.
