WELLINGTON

It’s time to start polishing those rims … AmeriCARna is coming to town!

Thousands of people are expected to flock to Hutt City in February next year for a celebration of the big, brash beauty of American cars and 1950s rock and roll culture.

Mayor David Ogden is excited about the prospect of several hundred American cars, from classics to hot rods, rumbling into the city for four days of fun and entertainment.

"AmericCARna is set to become an iconic event for Hutt City and will attract all sorts of people keen to take part in the festival atmosphere.

“There’ll be something for everyone from families, to car enthusiasts, diehard petrol heads to those who want to take a step back in time and reminisce.

“We’ll be working hard to maximise the opportunities this kind of attention can generate for our city,” he says.
Proposed highlights include a “Friday night cruise” down Jackson Street where the cars, polished to perfection, will drive in procession, and a Saturday country fair in the central city featuring car displays and family entertainment.

Event director John Rae is looking forward to bringing the successful Taranaki-born AmeriCARna event to Hutt City.

“I can’t wait to bring AmeriCARna to Hutt City which is the ideal venue given the city’s proud motoring history,” he says.
