Crash in Gisborne

At approx 06:00am this morning emergency services attended a serious car crash.

The incident has occured on Beach Rd, Tokomaru Bay, Gisbourne District.

A female occupant of the car appears to have been thrown from the vehicle during the crash and has died at the scene.

Details of the female have not been released until next of kin have been advised.

The car, a Subaru, appears to has left the coastal road and crashed over a small bank ending up on the beach area. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The Police specialist squads are attending the scene to carry out the scene and vehicle examination
The male driver in his mid twenties is being spoken to by Police.

At this stage the cause of the crash is unknown.
