MT HUTT

Skiers and boarders are revelling in thoughts of hitting the slopes at Canterbury’s Mt Hutt ski area which opens tomorrow (Saturday June 12).

Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson said the high country ski area’s home town of Methven was fizzing about the conditions and opening.

“We have outstanding average snow coverage of one metre which is awesome for opening day. Skiing and riding will be mainly on groomed trails with variable conditions off trail.

“There are some great new developments to welcome the 2010 season,” he said. “Learners will love the newly enclosed Magic Carpet and expanded beginners’ area and the café and Huber’s Hut have each been upgraded, plus there are improvements in the terrain parks which allow for better access and new features.”

Tomorrow’s launch will give snow enthusiasts the chance to use their personalised mypass at Mt Hutt for the very first time.

“The new NZSki Radio Frequency System (RF System) just makes getting to and on the lifts quicker and easier than ever – you just stick the pass in a pocket and forget about it. And, when the day is over, people can go home and check out their ski stats such as how many runs and how much vertical metres they skied over the day.”
