Applications are now open for Nelson City Council's Community Assistance Funding for 2010/11. Applications are invited until 10am Monday 12 July 2010 and the allocations will be decided at a Council meeting on Monday 9 August.

This year the funding available for community assistance contracts and one-off grants will be $90,684, as $345,600 was allocated to two year contracts last year. Of the total amount allocated to community assistance, 10 – 20% will be allocated for one-off grants and the rest for contracts.

Community Assistance Funding is for not-for-profit community organisations that provide services that help Council to achieve community outcomes.

Joint Portfolio Holder Community Services, Clr Pete Rainey says “the funding is a great way for the city to assist groups which help make Nelson a better place to live. The fund is intended to support those organisations that are providing services in line with the Council’s own objectives as developed through long term planning with the Nelson Community.”

The full criteria are included in the 2010/2011 Community Assistance Funding Guidelines which, along with the application forms are available at Nelson City Council, Nelson libraries, you can click here to get the forms and more information online or contact the Council to have one sent out to you.

Council is holding two public information sessions to provide advice on how to fill in application forms and answer any questions that may arise. They will cover the same information and will be held on Wednesday 30 June at 10.30am and 5.30pm in the Nelson City Council Chamber.

Anyone interested in attending is invited to register their interest by emailing jadie.white@ncc.govt.nz by Friday 25 June.
