Makino disrupted by winter blues

OPERATIONAL problems have disrupted the start of the Makino Aquatic Centre’s winter programme.
MAC Manager, Nick Mannix, said staff had been busy over the last month dealing with issues that have caused concerns for both council and community.

“We believe a combination of age and the 2004 floods has created a possible leak within the indoor 25m pool that is hard to detect,” he said. “All possible measures are being undertaken to locate the problem.”

He said the indoor pool remained open but users could notice some fluctuations in water temperature as the issue was worked on.

An electrical fault from a power outage had also caused the centre’s shower hot water system to crash. A temporary system was in place while new hardware was sourced and installed.

“We would like to apologise for these present problems,” said Mr Mannix, “but please be aware we are working quickly to ensure the Makino is returned to its high level of service.”
