AKAROA

Popular children’s television show What Now has enlisted the help of Black Cat Cruises to help with its hunt for a new presenter.

Hundreds of people from around New Zealand applied for the role, and What Now are now down to three finalists in their hunt to "fill Serena's shoes.”

The budding television female hosts have been put through their paces on the show each week and this Sunday will see the final three contenders for the role dive off a Black Cat Cruises vessel in Akaroa harbour and swim to shore.

“It’s great to involve local cruise company Black Cat who are providing the boat and staff for the challenge; it will be loads of fun.” What Now presenter Charlie Panapa said.

The producers of the show are encouraging their audience to make the trek over to Akaroa on Sunday to watch proceedings, which will be filmed live.

The show’s producer Reuben Davidson said they would “love to see lots of people on the waterfront from 7am, excited and ready to go.

“We go live to air at 8am and will cross a number of times to build up to the final plunge close to 10 o’clock.”

Black Cat Cruises Sales and Marketing manager Alison Fleming is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with What Now.

“It will be great to see lots of families and kids coming into Akaroa to watch all the activity, and it will mean great coverage for the town.”

The show is enlisting the help of other local personalities to help out the contenders through a series of other challenges prior to their polar plunge, including filleting a fish and cooking it.
