A 20 year old man received facial injuries after he was shot during a confrontation in WAIROA.
At 1020pm on Thursday 1st July 2010 there was a confrontation between two groups of men at an address on Mclean Street, WAIROA. A firearm was produced and a number of shots were fired. One of these shots struck the victim in the face.
He was transferred to HASTINGS hospital where he underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments. The injuries are not considered life threatening.
No other person was injured in the incident.
Armed Offenders Squad members from GISBORNE attended and will remain in the township to ensure there no further problems while CIB are making enquiries into the incident.
