The new public conveniences on the Picton foreshore are now open for use. With design details to reflect their seaside location, the new block is a bright, modern example of how public amenities can look.
The decor is very definitely nautical, with a compass design set into the natural stone particle flooring, sand-blasted glass screens depicting a ship’s wheel, porthole mirrors and a wave-shaped tiled splash-back above the hand basins.
Sensor-operated taps and eco-friendly air hand dryers have also been installed to raise the hygiene standard.
Like the recently-opened amenities block at Blenheim’s Pollard Park, a glossy, graffiti-resistant surface has been used for the Picton toilet block's concrete walls.
The Council plans to upgrade all toilets in the region over the next few years.
