David Tua has maintained his hope for another shot at the heavyweight world
title, although it wasn't the way he would have wanted as he drew with
veteran Monte Barrett in Atlantic City.
In a controversial end to a fight that Barrett looked to have perhaps scored
enough points after knocking down Tua in the last minute of the 12th round.
Barrett caught Tua with a crisp left hook after the South Aucklander went
toe-to-toe with him in search of a knockout blow, instead it was 'Two Gunz'
that came up trumps with a flooring left hand.
One judge scored the bout 115-111 in Tua's favour with the other two judges
scoring the fight at 113-113 for both fighters.
It was perhaps a lucky escape for Tua's camp who looked frustrated
throughout the bout as their prized fighter lacked the killer instinct to
knockout Barrett despite connecting with a number of strong left and right
hand punches.
For Monte Barrett, it was the end of his career where he displayed plenty of
courage and determination to take the fight to the strongly favoured Tua.
Tua's record now has a record of 51 wins (43 three by knockout), three losses (all by
points) and two draws, with one knockdown - the first of his career.
