The first day of the 2010 IPC Shooting World Championships has seen Paralympics New Zealand team member Greg Reid (Wellington) finish a creditable 8th out of 71 competitors in the R3 10m Air Rifle Prone.

Reid, attending his first World Championships, scored 599 (out of a possible 600) in the qualification round and was required to compete in a “shoot off” with five other competitors for a place in the final eight.

Reid came through the “shoot off” in second place, qualifying himself a place in the final where he scored 104 to finish 8th overall. The winning shooter, Sungwon Jang from South Korea scored 106.3.

Michael Johnson and Grant Philip start their competition Wednesday evening (New Zealand time).
