New data from SEEK New Zealand reveals high paying job listings are on the rise, with a 48% increase in the past year for jobs listed that pay over $100,000 per annum ($100k+).
The data also reveals the top six industries with the most $100k+ roles, and if the results are anything to go by, future rich list hopefuls may want to position themselves in the I.T. sector and in Auckland.
Top 6 industries with the most jobs advertised paying $100K+
| 2010 jobs listed ranking | 2010 top 6 industries by volume of jobs listed | Percentage growth since 2009 | Industry | |
| 1 | I.T. & Technology | 98% | Banking & Financial Services | |
| 2 | Engineering | 80% | Healthcare & Medical | |
| 3 | Sales & Marketing | 64% | I.T. & Technology | |
| 4 | Accounting | 47% | Engineering | |
| 5 | Healthcare & Medical | 40% | Sales & Marketing | |
| 6 | Banking & Financial Services | 26% | Accounting |
As of July 2010, over 2,500 jobs are advertised on seek.co.nz with an annual salary of at least $100,000 and just over 10% of these paying over $200k.
I.T. & Technology jobs continue to dominate the highest paid roles available, with over a quarter of the listings in the $100k+ bracket. As Annemarie Duff, General Manager of SEEK New Zealand explains, this comes as no surprise;
“I.T. & Technology has been at the top of the list for a long time now, and this sector rates consistently in the top 5 industries with the most sought after employees.”
“What is really interesting to see is the huge increase in the number of Banking & Financial roles listed, proportionately this area has seen the most growth, the numbers have almost doubled in a year.”
$100k+ jobs by listing location
Auckland has the biggest proportion of high salary roles, and has experienced a 49% increase in $100K+ jobs overall in the past year. This is despite fluctuations through the year, the most significant of which was in December when listings fell by 8%.
In contrast Wellington’s top jobs have enjoyed the most overall growth at 80% with results tracking along a steady continuum. The North Island has 90% of the total high paying positions listed, with Christchurch being the only location in the South Island with more than 5% of total $100k+ listings.
For the country overall in the last 12 months there has been a significant number of high paying jobs on offer, the best month for landing one of these roles was in May 2010 when nearly 3,000 jobs paying $100k+ were listed on seek.co.nz.
Annemarie Duff says, “It’s great to see the executive job market continuing to grow, and this is a trend reflected throughout every level of the job market. For job seekers, salary is the single most important thing that people consider when looking for a job, and we’ve also noticed that since its launch, the search by salary feature has become a hugely popular tool on SEEK.”
