A post mortem examination has been carried out today on the body of a man found in Miramar Wharf yesterday.

Detective Inspector Paul Basham, head of the Wellington City CIB, says Police completed the scene examination yesterday and are today continuing background enquiries.

"Provisional results of the post mortem suggest that the man may have drowned and do not indicate any foul play."

However, ultimately the circumstances and the cause of death are matters for the Coroner to make a final decision on, at a later date.

Police have formally identified the man. He was 57 year-old Ranchhod Patel of Wellington.
