Kiwi celebs tell NZ why they ♥ human rights

Comedian Oscar Kightley loves human rights because: “There’s nothing funny about not having them.”

Celebrity chef Peter Gordon loves human rights because: “Ultimately we’re one big family, and we should just sit around the dining table and get on with it.”

Some of New Zealand’s famous faces including Tiki Taane, Te Radar, Hollie Smith, Oscar Kightley, Peter Gordon and Otis Frizzell are amongst twelve Kiwis who are showing the country they love human rights. This show of affection is in support of Amnesty International’s annual appeal, Freedom Week, 2-8 August.

To tie in with this year’s theme “I ♥ Human Rights”, the organisation has worked with creative advertising agency Colenso BBDO to create a series of posters to help promote Freedom Week and raise awareness about Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand.

“It’s no secret that we love human rights here at Amnesty,” says Mo Farrell, Amnesty’s Freedom Week Co-ordinator. “We are lucky to live in a country where the list of freedoms we have goes on and on, and we are free to act in defence of human rights. Other countries are not so lucky.”

“We’re calling on all New Zealanders from all walks of life to stand up with us and say they love human rights too, by digging deep and donating to Amnesty either directly to one of our volunteers collecting on the streets or via our website, www.amnesty.org.nz,” says Farrell.

Hundreds of volunteers will be out on the streets across the country on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th August, collecting donations for Freedom Week.
