With the East Taupo Arterial weeks away from completion, Taupo District Council, Fulton Hogan and Taupo Moana Rotary Club and Bikefest Manager Keith Crate are planning a public open day to celebrate this significant event in Taupo history.

“Rumours have been rife around town with the talk of an open day,” said Ted Anderson, Council’s Group Manager Infrastructure and Parks. “I can now confirm the date has been set for Sunday 26 September so book it in your diaries now and invite your friends!”

This public open day will provide a unique opportunity for residents to cycle or walk a section of the East Taupo Arterial and view it before anyone else in the country.

Cyclists will be set off at 9.00am and Walkers at 11.30am, with wheelchairs starting at 11.15am. Food and drink stations will be set up by various charity organisations along the way to keep participants fed and watered. Participation is by gold coin donation with proceeds going to Taupo Hospice and St Johns.

“There are a few other surprises in store so keep your eyes and ears open,” said Mr Anderson. “This is a big moment for the Taupo community. A lot of people have put a lot of time and effort and energy into this project so we want to make this an event to remember,” he said.
