Police pursuit in Blenheim

On Tuesday 21/09/2010 at 11:15pm Blenheim Police were notified that a Mitsubishi station wagon had been stolen from a Parker Street, Blenheim address. A short time later Police received information that the same vehicle had been involved in a theft of petrol.

At 11:40pm the stolen vehicle was observed by Police travelling south on the Main Street in Blenheim. The vehicle failed to stop when signalled by Police.

The stolen vehicle containing 4 young males aged between 15 and 18 was pursued south on State Highway One.

The occupants of the car threw items at the pursuing Police which included a car jack, headrests, bottles of beer and a glove box.

The stolen vehicle ran over road spikes on the Hurunui River Bridge, the tyres deflated and the vehicle crashed into a ditch just south of the bridge.

The driver tried to run but was apprehended by a Police dog handler and received minor injuries. No other person was injured.

The arrested persons were all taken to the Christchurch Police Station where they are being processed for a variety of offences.
