White powder found in Upper Hutt not toxic

Preliminary results by ESR indicate the white powder discovered in Wallaceville, Lower Hutt earlier this morning is not toxic.

A staff member of the computer data processing unit, located in Lane Street, discovered an envelope containing white powder around 9:15am and emergency services were called.

Further testing by ESR will be conducted overnight to confirm the exact nature of the substance.

Emergency services have been stood down and the building re-opened to staff a short time ago.

Police will continue to investigate the incident to identify the person or persons responsible.
