Emergency services are at the scene of a truck crash on SH2 just north of Morere on the East Coast which occured at 4.45 this afternoon [Friday 25th].

A shipping container from the trailer unit of the truck has fallen down a bank leaving the cab on the road with the driver trapped inside. A second occupant has managed to get out of the cab without assistance.

The road was partially open however has since been closed as emergency services are removing the trapped person and he will be transported to hospital by helicopter once extracted. Until this is done and a crane is able to remove the truck SH2 at this point will remain closed, probably until 9 pm or later.

The status of both persons is not known although the injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
