Voting in the 2010 local body elections closes on Saturday 9 October at midday and the first provisional results are expected by late afternoon or early evening.

Provisional results will be available on www.elections2010.co.nz as they are released by electoral officers.

The election results will deliver over 1900 elected members across a range of boards, councils and trusts such as health boards, community boards, unitary councils, regional councils, licensing trusts, district councils and local boards.

Local Government New Zealand staff will also be available to media on the day to provide commentary, highlight trends and analyse results.

Leading the LGNZ response to the elections will be governance manager Mike Reid for whom the 2010 elections will be his fifth with LGNZ.

“Local body elections are always a time of change with new people elected to community roles and some standing members disposed. LGNZ is in a strong position to offer overview of election results nationally and comment on what possible changes might mean for the local government sector,” said Mr Reid.
