Runners of all ages and abilities who signed up for the Riverrun Trail Series will be in with a chance to win from the $10,000 prize pool on offer.

With just under two weeks to go, event organizers are thrilled with the response to date and would like to encourage more runners to come and enjoy Lake Wanaka’s spectacular lakeside and river tracks.

The first event will be staged on Sunday 17 October on the Hawea River Track and offers a 5km, 10 km and half marathon option. Race director Victoria Murray-Orr believes it is a great time to kick-start the summer training.

“It is exciting to see so many people dust off their trainers to give it a go, and with a substantial prize pool plenty of athletes will be rewarded for their efforts. Grab your friends and family and make it a fun social occasion to enjoy Lake Wanaka’s stunning tracks,” she said.

The $10,000 prize pool includes cash prizes for place getters, vouchers for local cafes, restaurants, luxury accommodation at Riverrun, Revive massage treatments, book vouchers, Merrell outdoor gear, entries to the local swimming pool, Sportsbands, sporting gear from Racers Edge, supermarket vouchers and much more. All competitors will receive two free Runners World magazines and be in the draw to win subscriptions.

Creating a series encourages people to stay fit and healthy throughout the year and to set personal goals. The John Pawson Trophy will be awarded to the fastest male and female competitors over the whole series.

The Riverrun Trail Series begins 17 October. Race two on the 19 February 2011 is a 14.1km run from Albert Town to Luggate on the Clutha River Track with the final race on the 21 May from Glendhu Bay to Wanaka’s Roy’s Bay via the Damper Bay and Waterfall Creek Track, 14.3km.

The Riverrun Trail Series is generously supported by Riverrun, the Pawson Adventure Fund, Nevada Sports, Racers Edge, Revive Beauty, Lakes Podiatry and Radio Wanaka
