With the departure of Council’s Community Safety Officer, Alison Banks in September, Council had big shoes to fill. But they didn’t have to search far. Effective Monday, Helen Algar steps into the role of Community Safety Officer. Mrs Algar is currently Active Transport Coordinator with Council.

Council’s Community Services Group Manager, Thunes Cloete said “Helen’s experience working with the local community, NZTA, Police and her involvement with existing programmes make her the perfect candidate.”

Mrs Algar, is standing down as a member of the District Heath Board, and should hit the ground running in her new role. Mrs Algar will draw on her many years’ experience, working on the frontline in the health sector and with the community.

Mrs Algar said “Working with Alison and the rest of the Community Safety Team over the past two years has been a privilege. I look forward to continuing the good work in my new role”.

Mrs Algar will continue to be based in Abacus House, working on Council’s award winning community safety initiatives, like the Waitaki Guardians and T.A.G. anti graffiti projects. Mrs Algar will run road safety initiatives and education programmes like Drive 2 Survive.
