Mobility scooter users will receive personal attention from Council's Road Safety Co-ordinator at a safety-themed club meeting in Whitianga the Wednesday after Labour weekend.

An increase in the number of mobility scooters in the District - some able to travel at 50km/h - makes these events vital, says East Waikato Road Safety Co-ordinator, Ingrid Le Fevre.

"Attendees will be given High Viz covers for their scooter baskets, a goody pack from Invacare and personal help to fill in Request for Service forms scooter users can submit to Council when they come across roading issues that affect their safety," she said.

"The event will provide like minded mobility scooter users the opportunity to enjoy a social get-together and discuss road safety and visibility issues over a cup of tea."

The meeting is a collaborative effort facilitated by Thames-Coromandel District Council (TCDC) and Home Health & Mobility's Gary Darkes. It will be held at the Mercury Bay Club on Wednesday 27 November from 10:30am - 12:00pm.
