Kapiti Police to take pro-active approach to reduce alcohol harm
Kapiti Police are taking a proactive approach to alcohol harm through a series of targeted controlled purchase operations in the coming months.
Reducing Alcohol Harm Sergeant Jacqui Muir of Kapiti Police says a controlled purchase operation (CPO) on the Kapiti Coast last month found 7 out of 12 premises sold alcohol to underage volunteers, including superettes, restaurants and bars.
"Given this latest CPO proved disappointing, Kapiti Police are taking action through education and enforcement to ensure our young people on the Kapiti Coast are protected from liquor abuse."
Sergeant Muir says those who are licensed to sell liquor in our community need to ensure they carry out their responsibilities correctly.
"This means challenging anyone who appears to be under the age of 25 years, and asking for photo identification before making a sale."
She says all licensed premises on the Kapiti Coast need to be aware that any time, anywhere, these CPOs will be carried out and anyone breaking the law can expect to be caught.
