SOUTHLAND

In the traditions of the Tour of France Subway-Avanti Pro Cycling’s Joe Cooper will start tomorrow’s seventh stage of the Powernet Tour of Southland with a very special bike.

In recognition of his efforts and lead in the climber’s competition, Subway - Avanti team management and team sponsor Speedy Signs have quickly added the Tour de France tradition of red poker dots to his Avanti bike to match his poker dot KOM leaders jersey.

Cooper was second on today’s first King of the Mountains climb at Jollies Pass in Northern Southland before comfortably winning the second climb between Kingston and Frankton and then the third climb high above the Shotover River near Queenstown to move further into the lead in the climbers competition.

“The team is super keen to have the KOM jersey and today was all about adding more points in that competition,” Cooper said.
