QUEENSTOWN

One year since opening its flying fox eco-adventure high in the tree tops above Queenstown and Ziptrek Ecotours has won highly-acclaimed recognition in the adventure capital for its outstanding efforts towards sustainability

The Westpac Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, which took place on Saturday (13 November) celebrates the resort town’s business excellence, passion and success with just six awards given every alternate year to those who have contributed significantly to the region.

Ziptrek Ecotours was selected for the Sustainable Business Award after proving its dedication towards long-term profitability, creating no waste/being carbon neutral, meeting people’s needs, showing sustainable business practice, using clean energy and being industry specific. The company was up against Ricoh Copiers in the final stages of the competition.

Company Director Trent Yeo, who was at the glittering awards hosted by Ziptrek’s neighbours, Skyline Gondola, said it was an honour to collect the award on behalf of his team.

“I’m delighted for everybody at Ziptrek Ecotours. This is a company that lives and breathes sustainability so we’re all immensely proud to win, particularly in this area,” he said.

“It’s fantastic for us to be part of the process that represents the cornerstone of businesses in this world-class location and take credit in a country that is so well renowned for its natural environment. It’s an incredibly inspiring milestone for our whole team.”

Ziptrek Ecotours carries out several eco-initiatives and sustainable business measures within the community, its workforce and further afield.

As part of its new Kea 6-line Tour the company has developed a stunning 20-minute Tiki Trail through the ancient native beech forest on Bob’s Peak, high above Queenstown. The track, which is gifted to the community from Ziptrek, can be accessed from the bottom of the Skyline Gondola and will be opened by Queenstown Mayor, Vanessa van Uden at an official ceremony this Friday (19 November) at 5pm.
