Around 350 personal computers, 400 monitors and 270 printers, scanners and fax machines were among electronic items dropped off at collection points during e-Day in the Far North this year.

Across the three collection sites at Kaitaia, Kerikeri and Kaikohe the event produced over 50 pallets of these computer-related and electronic items.

The annual e-Day collection is an opportunity for the community to safely dispose of unwanted or broken computers, computer-related and electronic items without the potential for contamination from toxic components if dumped at landfills

Nationwide, e-Day produced its biggest haul of electronic waste since the annual collection was inaugurated three years ago. Close to 77,000 computer and computer-related items were collected across the country.

In the Far North, Kerikeri produced the largest return with 29 pallets of monitors, PCs, printers, scanners and faxes, Kaitaia produced 13 pallets and Kaikohe 9 pallets.

The annual event is co-ordinated by a national community trust pledged to recover and reuse as much of the material collected as possible. It is supported locally by the Council, Transpacific Industries, Clean Stream Northland, Transfield Services and Rotary.
