WELLINGTON

The setting for New Zealand’s first Red Bull Thre3Style was iconic Wellington bar, The San Fransisco Bath House. At full capacity the stage was set for Wellington's finest DJ’s to battle it out for supremacy.

The formats simple, rock the party and ignite bedlam on the dance floor to claim your title as the best party rocker DJ in Wellington and take your spot in the national finals along with your runner up, against the Auckland finalists.

A hyped crowd meant that two hours and a whole lot of dance floor madness later saw the judges with a hard decision to make, what two DJ’s would be representing Wellington in Auckland.

Alphabethead took home the top prize of a $1000 and bragging rights to being the top party rocker in the windy city, and with a trip to Auckland tonight to compete in the national finals.

“Exhausted” was the first word that came from Alphabethead’s mouth when he spoke of his win last night.

“I have been practicing like never before, putting in 3 to 4 hours a night on the decks. I’m all about intensity and completely rocking out”.

Alphabethead grabbed the attention of the judges and the crowd with his unique approach to Thre3Style. He walked on stage holding record covers above his head reading ‘No headphones…No computer’ and continued to rock the crowd with House, Bollywood and Dub tracks mixed flawlessly without the aids that most DJ’s rely on.

The runner up, Jeremy (The Upbeats) also won the chance to compete against the Aucklander’s at the final event tonight.
Jeremy unlike Alphabethead was surprised at his second place and had not been as well prepared.

“I arrived home last night from Bali where I played a festival called ‘Paradise in Bali’. I’m jet lagged but am stoked I could pull it together when it mattered. Tomorrow (sic) will be a day much like today, a mad rush to sort my set out before the event. I hadn’t even thought this far ahead I was meant to be playing in Palmerston North tomorrow night (sic)…but I will definitely be pulling out of that now”.

The Auckland regional’s and Thre3Style finals will be held tonight at The Studio and the winner will receive a trip to Paris on December 9th to represent New Zealand in the Red Bull Thre3Style world finals.

Red Bull Thre3Style is an innovative concept that gives highly skilled DJs a platform to battle, perform, gain notoriety and express themselves in a party atmosphere. Eight DJs fight for the crowd’s favor, each with a 15 minute set that must contain at least three different musical genres. A panel of music industry judges selects the winners based on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction.

Doors open to The Studio at 8pm tonight, tickets are $10 on the door and there will be special performances from Skratch Bastid (Canada) and PDigsss.
