Wairarapa Police have celebrated a violence-free community today, marking White Ribbon Day with a 55 kilometre bike ride from Martinborough to Masterton.
The event was a joint partnership between Wairarapa Violence Free Network and Wairarapa Police, to support the White Ribbon campaign where men take a stand towards any form of violence against women.
Officer in Charge of Community Services Sergeant Mike Sutton says nine Wairarapa Police staff today demonstrated their commitment to a violence free community by riding the 55 kilometres to Masterton to join up with the White Ribbon Day March.
"White Ribbon Day has been a chance for Police, partner agencies and the Wairarapa community to come together and show our support for combating family violence."
Sergeant Sutton says Police remain committed to reducing the level of family violence within our community every day of every week.
"The effects of family violence on every community in New Zealand are huge and White Ribbon Day today has demonstrated that Police will continue to do all we can to prevent it."
