TAUPO

The finals of the annual New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) Girls’ Cricket Cup finals got underway in Taupo this morning.

Play started at 10.30am in the first round of 40 over matches for the eight teams who have come from around the country.

The teams have been split across two groups and will play four games over the next four days at Owen Delany Park and Kaimanawa Reserve.

Today’s draw:

GROUP A

Hillcrest High School versus Wanganui Collegiate Owen Delany Park

St Hilda’s Collegiate versus Epsom Girls’ Grammar School Kaimanawa Reserve

GROUP B

Christchurch Girls’ High School versus Avondale College Owen Delany Park

Havelock North High School versus Wellington Girls’ College   Owen Delany Park

In group A St Hilda’s and Hillcrest won the toss and elected to put the opposition into bat while in group B Wellington Girls’ and Avondale won the toss and elected to bowl.

The competition, which is in its 17th year, sees the return of Wellington Girls’ College as defending champions. The NZCT Girls’ Cup is an important occasion for schools to compete against the best and is a critical component of the player development pathway for secondary school girls.  Numerous White Ferns have played in previous NZCT national finals tournaments, including Natalie Dodd and Kate Broadmore who both played in the NZCT finals in 2008.
