MASTERTON

Wairarapa Police are investigating an incident which left a teenage girl shaken, after she was approached by a man on Colombo Road shortly after 6pm last night.

Detective Emma Foote of the Wairarapa CIB says the 14 year old was walking north on Colombo Road over the bridge which leads to Henley Lake.

"The victim was then approached from behind by a man, who made unwanted advances towards her."

Detective Foote says the offender began to follow the girl and at the same time, a black Mitsubishi Legnum stationwagon drove past and the offender ran off along Colombo Road heading towards the netball courts..

"The offender is described as a male Maori, 6 foot tall, in his late teens or early twenties. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans."

Detective Foote is appealing to the driver of the black Mitsubishi Legnum to come forward and anyone else who was in the area at the time.

"This was a scary experience for the victim who was left visibly shaken by the incident and it's also of concern to Police."

Anyone with any information should phone the Wairarapa Police on (06) 370 0300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Meanwhile, a 21 year-old male has appeared in the Masterton District Court today charged with indecent assault and abduction in relation to an alleged incident involving a 10 year old boy on Wednesday 1 December 2010.

He has been remanded on bail with strict conditions to reappear on January 6 2011.
