The winners of the 2010 Gillette Cup are King’s College from Auckland.

It was a battle of North v South in today’s final when King’s faced last year’s Gillette Cup champions Christchurch Boys’ High School.

King’s won the toss and elected to bat, making 159 all out off 48 overs. Batsman Simon Hickey helped boost the King’s score, making a half century.

Christchurch Boys’ High was never in the hunt. The team was all out for 78 in 34.5 overs. King’s opening bowler Tom Urry ripped through the Christchurch batting line up, taking six wickets for only 10 runs off 8.5 overs.

King’s Coach Roy Goodyear said the team are thrilled by the result.

“The title of wining the Gillette Cup Final will sink in eventually," he said.

"This team has performed exceptionally well and we've only had one bad day in the whole year, so it’s a wonderful moment,” he said.

“It was an absolutely brilliant performance by Tom Urry: he got six for ten, and that’s just outstanding bowling in anybody’s book.  He was supported by some very good catching so it was a strong effort from the whole team. I’m very proud of the boys.”
